Laney S. Jernigan
Associate Attorney
Originally from Florida, Laney earned her undergraduate degree from The University of Alabama, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminal Justice. During her time at Alabama, she was an active member of the Pre-Law Student Association, where she began exploring her interest in the legal profession.
Laney went on to earn her Juris Doctor from Belmont University College of Law, where she developed a particular interest in family law. She was an active member of the Family Law Society and participated in Belmont’s Mediation Practicum, gaining valuable insight into the role mediation can play in helping families navigate difficult transitions. Her work in the practicum also earned her the CALI Excellence for the Future Award.
Laney’s passion for family law continued to grow during her internship with Judge Ana Escobar, where she had the opportunity to observe civil orders of protection and domestic violence proceedings firsthand. During her third year of law school, she joined Digby Family Law as an intern, where hands-on experience and mentorship from the firm’s attorneys helped solidify her desire to pursue a career in family law. What began as an internship quickly became an opportunity to build meaningful connections and develop her approach to helping families through some of life’s most challenging moments.
Laney’s connection to family law is also deeply personal. Having experienced her own parents’ divorce, she understands that the challenges families face during these transitions extend far beyond the courtroom. That perspective shapes her commitment to approaching each client’s unique circumstances with compassion, understanding, and a genuine desire to help them move forward with confidence.
Outside of the office, Laney enjoys cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide, getting outdoors for a walk, and spending time with friends exploring new restaurants and local spots around Nashville.
